• For many Americans, getting a full night’s rest can be a challenge. Tiredness is listed as Americans’ number two health concern, right below stress. 
  • According to the National Sleep Foundation, 41% of Americans report having problems tossing and turning at least a few nights a week. Each year at least 40 million Americans suffer from chronic, long term sleep disorders.
  • These sleep-deprived consumers are embracing relaxing household products. Between May 2013 and May 2014, the number of US household products labeled for nighttime use with the words “sleep” or “dream” in their packaging increased by 3.5%.
  • Procter & Gamble Company of Tide, Downy and Bounce introduced the “Sweet Dreams Collection,” of fabric softeners and laundry detergents and promoted the “Tuck In. Turn Off” campaign. This campaign encouraged people to shut down their smart devices at least half an hour before bed and use their scented products to help soothe consumers to sleep.
  • Procter & Gamble Company first addressed Americans’ growing need for sleep with the 2012 launch of ZzzQuil sleep aid. A few years ago Neutrogena correctly predicted the trend of Americans’ rising interest in beauty sleep products by introducing Night Calming Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.

  • We live in such a fast past world that getting a night of sound sleep can often be the last thing we think about. With many daily distractions such as technology and the stress of work, it can be hard for our brains to shut down and focus on falling fast asleep. Consumers are becoming more aware of how lack of sleep can impact their health such as risks that include: hypertension, depression and cardiovascular diseases.
  • Using calming household products may seem like a gimmick. However, Independent clinical studies from University of Maryland and Memorial Sloan Cancer Center have found lavender scent improves sleep among individuals.
  • According to a survey conducted by Healthcare Research & Analytics (HRA), more than half of physicians would recommend their patients using clean, lavender scented bedtime fabrics as a way to help them relax. Individuals can train their bodies to associate restful smells and activities with sleep, when they create a calming atmosphere as part of their bedtime ritual.
  • As sleep continues to be a growing concern for Americans, it’s time to change the way we look at our nightly routine. Instead of reaching for your sleeping pills or electronic devices to help put you to sleep, try setting the right ambiance in your room by using some lavender scented sheets or pillows to help your body relax before catching some ZZZs. Consumers continue to look for products that will help them lead a restful and balanced lifestyle. This includes using any “sleep” or “dream” related products to help them unwind and get the right amount of sleep, so they can feel well rested and ready to tackle the day ahead.
